AERIAL IMAGES of BRITISH COLUMBIA

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

Flight 1 Part 1 Of 1

These images were taken in 1990 over northern coastal BC before landing at Vancouver. I had flown over mountain ranges before but I had never observed the absolute visual impact of seeing the extent of clearcut logging from such an altitude. The logging roads to get access to these areas are clearly visible. It became clear to me why some people COULD become so emotional about such a situation especially if they were on the ground and for miles and miles there was nothing but denuded landscape. It is almost as if skin was peeled away from parts of the body using a giant razor. Questions arise such as what happened to the wildlife. Feeding, nesting, breeding territories take generations to establish and possibly in a matter of months they were gone. Finally the question "who" cared. Please be clear that these remarks are personal and are not based on any scientific study on my part.
